Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District / Apr 1, 2025

State of Missouri, Respondent, vs. Jeffrey Reuter, Appellant.

Appellant

Jeffrey Reuter was convicted by a jury on three counts of tampering with a judicial officer after delivering demand letters to the homes of three St. Louis County judges who had presided over his family law proceedings. On appeal, Reuter challenged the admission of evidence regarding the victims' emotional responses, a prosecutor's comment during trial, and hearsay evidence during the penalty phase. The appellate court affirmed the judgment, finding no error in the trial court's evidentiary rulings.

Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District / Oct 26, 2021

State of Missouri, Appellant, v. Jeffrey Reuter, Respondent.

Respondent

The State of Missouri appealed the trial court's order suppressing statements made by Jeffrey Reuter to police during a barricaded standoff and while being transported to the police station. Reuter had been charged with tampering with judicial officers. The appellate court reversed the suppression order, holding that Reuter was not in custody for Miranda purposes during the standoff, and his later statements in the police vehicle were not the product of interrogation.
