Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District / Aug 26, 2021
STATE OF MISSOURI, Respondent v. ANTHONY JAMAL SHEPHERD, Appellant
Anthony Jamal Shepherd was convicted of kidnapping in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon. The trial court orally ordered him to register as a sex offender, but this order was not incorporated into the written judgment. On appeal, Shepherd contended the trial court erred in ordering registration because he was not found guilty of a registrable offense with a sexual motivation. The appellate court agreed the oral order was erroneous but affirmed the judgment because the error was not part of the written judgment, which remained correct.
