Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City vs. Benefit Management Consultants, Inc., Carthage R-9 School District, and Gerber Life Insurance Company
Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City sued Benefit Management Consultants, Inc., Carthage R-9 School District, and Gerber Life Insurance Company for breach of contract, promissory estoppel, unjust enrichment, and violation of Missouri's Prompt Payment Act, seeking payment for healthcare services provided to a plan member. The trial court granted summary judgments and a judgment on the pleadings in favor of the defendants. The appellate court affirmed in part, reversed in part, and remanded, holding that St. Luke's had standing and was an in-network provider under the plan, but its MPPA and promissory estoppel claims failed, as did its third-party beneficiary claim.
