Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District / Apr 7, 2020
STATE OF MISSOURI, Plaintiff-Respondent v. BLAINE URIAH DOWNUM, Defendant-Appellant
Defendant Blaine Uriah Downum was convicted of child molestation, statutory rape, resisting arrest, and unlawful possession of a firearm. On appeal, Downum raised nine points of error, including speedy trial violations, improper severance of charges, refusal to exclude police officers from the courtroom, denial of inquiry into juror misconduct, admission of propensity evidence, improper bolstering of victim credibility, and insufficient evidence. The appellate court affirmed all convictions, finding no reversible error, denying several points on procedural grounds (abandonment, waiver, declining plain-error review) and others on the merits.
