Supreme Court of Missouri / Feb 26, 2019
R.M.A. (a Minor Child), by his Next Friend: Rachelle Appleberry, Appellant, vs. Blue Springs R-IV School District and Blue Springs School District Board of Education, Respondents.
R.M.A., a minor child, appealed the circuit court's dismissal of his petition alleging the Blue Springs R-IV School District and Board of Education discriminated against him based on his sex in violation of the Missouri Human Rights Act (MHRA) by denying him access to boys' restrooms and locker rooms. The Missouri Supreme Court vacated the circuit court's judgment and remanded the case. The Court held that R.M.A.'s petition sufficiently alleged a claim for sex discrimination under the MHRA and that the School District and School Board are considered "persons" subject to suit under the Act.
