Giles Cobbins appealed the circuit court's denial of his motion to quash service and set aside the revival of a monetary judgment in favor of Unifund CCR Partners. Unifund had obtained a default judgment against Cobbins in 2007 and sought to revive it in 2017, using service by publication after an initial attempt at personal service failed. The appellate court reversed, holding that Missouri law requires personal service to revive a monetary judgment, with limited exceptions not applicable here, and that service by publication was ineffective.
