Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District / May 4, 2021
Lynne Harrison, Respondent, v. Harris-Stowe State University, Appellant, and Emmanuel Lalande and Tammy Bramwell-Kimbrough, Defendants.
Lynne Harrison sued Harris-Stowe State University under the Missouri Human Rights Act (MHRA) for retaliatory discharge, age and gender discrimination, and hostile work environment. A jury found in favor of Harrison on her retaliatory discharge claim, awarding $32,000 in actual damages, and the trial court awarded attorneys' fees and litigation expenses. The appellate court affirmed the judgment for actual damages and attorneys' fees, but reversed the award of litigation expenses, remanding for the trial court to determine which out-of-pocket expenses could be included in attorneys' fees. The court also granted Harrison's request for appellate attorneys' fees and remanded for their determination.
