Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District / Oct 23, 2018
State of Missouri, Respondent, vs. Joevalis L. Johnson, Appellant.
Joevalis Johnson was convicted by a jury of two counts of first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action. The trial court, however, also found him guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm, a charge that had been severed prior to trial. On appeal, Johnson challenged the unlawful possession conviction, the admission of expert DNA testimony, and the denial of his motions to suppress witness identifications. The appellate court reversed the conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm and remanded with instructions to vacate it, but affirmed the judgment in all other respects.
