State of Missouri vs. Kyle Matthew Ledbetter
The State of Missouri brought an interlocutory appeal challenging the trial court's grant of Kyle Ledbetter's motion to suppress evidence. Ledbetter was arrested after being suspected of shoplifting, and officers conducted a warrantless search of his vehicle and a first aid kit found inside, discovering methamphetamine. The trial court suppressed the evidence, finding the search violated Ledbetter's Fourth Amendment rights. The appellate court affirmed the suppression ruling, concluding that the search was unreasonable as it did not fall under any exception to the warrant requirement.
