Larry Northcutt was convicted of first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the stabbing death of Chris Gernigan. On appeal, Northcutt claimed the trial court erred by admitting hearsay testimony regarding his cell phone messages and by admitting his pre-Miranda statement disclosing his cell phone number. The Eastern District of the Missouri Court of Appeals found no error, concluding that the challenged evidence was either cumulative or fell under the routine booking exception to Miranda, and affirmed the trial court's judgment.
