Mary Callanan and Kelley Miller, on behalf of Ronald Callanan, sued Cleaver-Brooks, Inc. for strict liability, negligence, and willful misconduct, alleging asbestos exposure from the company's products caused Callanan's asbestosis and death. The circuit court granted summary judgment for Cleaver-Brooks, finding no evidence of causation. The appellate court reversed, holding that the record contained a genuine dispute of material fact regarding Callanan's exposure to asbestos from Cleaver-Brooks products and whether those products were a "substantial factor" in his illness and death. The case was remanded for further proceedings.
