State of Missouri vs. M.M.W. Jr.
The State appealed the circuit court's dismissal of two indictments against M.M.W., Jr., who was seventeen at the time of his alleged offenses. The circuit court had dismissed the indictments, concluding that 2018 amendments to Chapter 211, which expanded juvenile court jurisdiction, applied retroactively. The appellate court reversed, holding that the Missouri Supreme Court had conclusively determined that the 2018 amendments to Chapter 211 are not retroactive and therefore M.M.W. should be tried in a court of general jurisdiction.
