Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District / Sep 15, 2021
STATE OF MISSOURI, Plaintiff-Respondent v. RONALD R. SPRADLING, Defendant-Appellant
Ronald R. Spradling was convicted of kidnapping, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm, and appealed his convictions and sentences. He challenged the trial court's denial of his requests to strike certain venirepersons for cause, arguing they could not fairly consider a felon's self-defense claim involving a firearm. Spradling also contended the trial court plainly erred in sentencing him on the armed criminal action counts. The appellate court affirmed the judgment, finding no abuse of discretion in jury selection and declining plain error review on the sentencing issue.
