Lois McDowell vs. St. Luke's Hospital of Kansas City
Lois McDowell, an employee of St. Luke's Hospital, was awarded workers' compensation benefits for a wrist injury sustained after falling at work while pulling a rolling cart through a congested doorway. St. Luke's appealed the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission's decision, arguing there was no causal connection to her work and insufficient evidence for a permanent partial disability award. The appellate court affirmed the Commission's award, finding sufficient evidence that the injury arose out of employment and supported the disability finding.
