Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District / Aug 11, 2020
In the Interest of: P.D.W.; Juvenile Officer vs. S.W. and M.W.
Parents S.W. and M.W. appealed a juvenile court judgment that found their daughter, P.W., was without proper care, custody, and support, and placed her in the legal and physical custody of Children's Division. While the appeal was pending, the juvenile court terminated jurisdiction and returned P.W. to her parents. The appellate court dismissed the appeal as moot, declining to expand the mootness exception for collateral consequences, which was recognized for juvenile delinquency adjudications, to child welfare cases involving parents.
