Trevon Henry vs. State of Missouri
Trevon Henry appealed the denial of his Rule 24.035 motion for postconviction relief, arguing that his 2019 sentence for a 2015 juvenile murder offense was illegal because the 2016 legislative modifications to the juvenile murder sentencing scheme could not be applied retroactively. The appellate court affirmed the motion court's judgment. It held that the legislature intended the 2016 juvenile sentencing scheme to apply retroactively to juvenile offenders who committed first-degree murder prior to the bill's enactment, thereby making Henry's sentence lawful.
